CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF CABINETRY

  • Stain Grade Wood should have a high-quality finish applied within 2 weeks of delivery, if raw.
  • Paint Grade Wood should have a high-quality finish applied within 8-12 weeks of delivery, if shop primed.
  • Paint Grade Wood should have a high-quality finish applied with 2 weeks of delivery, if NOT shop primed.
  • Raw is defined as no sealers, stains, or other products applied to wood in order to reduce the effects of moisture, UV, and other climate factors from adversely affecting the products.
  • Wood products should not be subjected to sudden or constant changes in temperature or humidity and should be allowed to breathe at all times. We have no ability to control the job-site conditions. If a project is not FULLY climate controlled there is a higher risk of issues occurring.  Any issues arising from job-site climate and/or humidity issues, and all costs associated therein are the customers sole responsibility.
  • Finishes should be applied to all surfaces of the cabinetry.

Cleaning the cabinetry:

  • McCaw Cabinetry Standard Stain and Painted Finishes:  Clean the cabinetry as needed with a lint-free cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly and immediately.  DO NOT USE SUCH PRODUCTS AS “Old English”, “Pledge”, “Endust,” or any wax or oil products. The wax used in these products has a chemical reaction to the finish on the cabinetry, which can make it difficult or impossible to repair or touch up.  DO NOT USE PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN THINNERS SUCH AS LACQUER THINNER, ACETONE, DENATURED ALCOHOL, and the like as these chemicals may ruin your finish and void all warranty.  If in question, please reach out to us for instruction.
  • Cabinetry not stained or painted by McCaw Cabinetry:  Please see contractor who performed the stain/paint work on the cabinetry for best practices.  It is likely still within reason to clean the cabinetry as needed with a lint-free cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly and immediately.
  • Specialty finishes: Due to the nature of specialty finishes and the need to use a variety of products to achieve the final desired look, no general care guidelines can be given up front as each instance may be different from another.
  • General Cleaning Notes: Make sure to wipe dry any spills, splashes, or dripping as they occur, always keep the surface of your cabinetry dry.  Water damage is not covered under this warranty.
  • Do not use any abrasive towels, rags, or powdered cleaners as these may scratch or penetrate the surface, thus allowing moisture to penetrate and deteriorate the finish.
  • Do not use a dishcloth to clean or dry cabinet exteriors. It may contain remnants of detergents and grease.
  • Do not use harsh detergents, strong soap, abrasive cleaners, or self-polishing waxes. All of these items can remove the cabinets’ applied finish.
  • McCaw Cabinetry is not responsible for damage incurred by improper handling or not following the above recommendations.

Items not covered under warranty

Below is a list of items that McCaw Cabinetry does not cover under our standard warranty. Some or all of these may apply to this specific project. These are items which commonly have recurring issues on jobsites. Since we are a very custom company, we are sometimes asked to do things outside of our standard practice and for the first time. There could potentially be issues which arise that are unforeseen and could not be fully known because the process is new or a one-off. We also have no ability to control the job-site conditions. If a project is not climate controlled there is a higher risk for many of these factors to occur. We want to make sure that we have provided you this information before proceeding with production.

Swoop/Angled Hoods

Due to the Wood-hoods having to be constructed with a removable panel to meet building code requirements there are numerous structural issues that potentially exist.  Shaped Wood-hoods, whether Angular or Curved create angular tension and there is potential for it to twist, crack, warp, and cup. We reserve the right to charge for replacement parts needed to fix any of these issues that may occur.

Tall Doors

Doors over 48” tall and/or 24” wide are not covered under our standard door warranty due to their tendency to warp over time.
Additional options to reduce warping:
**These options come at an additional cost.
  • Thicker doors will limit the warping.
  • Adding a metal frame to the door from our 3rd party vendor. (This is the better structural option)

Solid Lumber/Lumber Planked Doors

These doors carry no warranty unless we provide metal frames.
  • There is a high potential for material flex and movement over time with temperature and humidity changes.
  • There is also potential for the product to warp and bow, over time, due to the nature of the material. This is normal and not considered a defect or flaw.
  • We will offer to brace the backs of the doors with wood battens to try to prevent this from happening but cannot guarantee it will not occur.
  • If you choose to not allow us to brace the backs of the doors with metal frames, McCaw Cabinetry bears no responsibility for warranty or replacement costs. If over time the door or drawers need to be replaced, we reserve the right to charge for replacement parts.  Metal frames added to the doors will carry a 6-month warranty.

Mullion Doors

These types of doors are not covered under our standard door warranty due to their tendency to warp over time. This is because of variations in design, joining difficulty, and mullion thickness.  There is very little structure on decorative mullions;  additionally, most of the structure of the door itself has been removed creating a higher chance of twisting and warping.

Retractable Doors

  • This hardware is only covered by the 3rd party manufacturer’s warranty.
  • Most retractable door design requests exceed their manufacturing warranty.
  • Retractable door reveals may be inconsistent within the job due to hardware limits.
  • All retractable door hardware is designed for INSET cabinetry only.  All other instances and uses will have more potential variances which are visible to the eye and may also affect the user experience when functioning the hardware.

General Notes:

All 3rd party vendor hardware that is outsourced is only covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
Cabinetry that is deeper than 24” will receive 21” drawer guides as a standard.
If you have issues with your drawer guide or hinges, BLUM carries a limited warranty.
Doors 1” thick will only open 90 degrees.

Appliance Panels:

ALL appliance panels will be made in accordance with the manufacturer’s specs. If requested to alter the appliance panels from the manufactured recommended specifications, we will not warrant the work done, the effective use or any issues or costs that may arise
Oversizing, under-sizing, adding appliance toe kicks, etc., will all be subject to additional charges and carry no warranty.
